Creating randomly spread points
Reading time: 1 minute(s)
Create new point dataset within the constraining polygons with specified type of points sampling and number of points.
The XTools Pro Random Sampling Points tool generates random points within specified polygons.
Users can manage the number per constraining feature and distribution of points:
- Random
Constraining features are randomly filled with points. - Quasi-random
Constraining features are filled with the points not randomly but based on a regular grid. The sampling randomization level is specified in percent from 0 to 100. Higher sampling randomization level results in higher deviation from the regularity level. At 100% the regularity of sampling points is not visible.
Random sampling is essential for ensuring unbiased data collection and analysis:
- conducting unbiased surveys of flora and fauna within a study area. This method helps researchers collect data on species distribution, density, and habitat conditions without systematic bias.
- determining locations for soil and water sampling. It ensures a representative analysis of environmental conditions across a landscape, which is critical for pollution assessment and land management planning.
- selecting locations for conducting surveys and collecting public opinion data. This method ensures a diverse and representative sample of the population, which is essential for accurate social and economic research.
